What structural work does a wall removal actually involve?
The wall gets replaced by a beam, and the beam gets replaced into a complete load path. Temporary shoring walls go up on both sides first, taking the weight off the existing wall so it can be demolished safely. The new beam is set, then permanent posts are installed at each end. Those posts must land on something capable of carrying the concentrated load they now deliver, which in a slab on grade home usually means saw cutting the slab, excavating, and pouring a new pad footing sized in the engineer's calculations.
