About Benitez Contractors

Work With Benitez Contractors

3 min read

Benitez Contractors is a general contracting company in Orange, California, working on residential remodeling and light commercial projects across Orange County. We are usually interested in talking to good carpenters, capable project managers and licensed specialty trades, whether or not a specific role is posted. If you take the work seriously and communicate like an adult, get in touch.

What we look for

Technical skill matters and we test for it, but it is not the hardest thing to find. The harder thing is someone who will tell a client the truth when the news is bad, who will call ahead when they are running late instead of arriving late without a word, and who leaves a job site at the end of the day in a state they would be comfortable with in their own house. Those habits are what our whole client process depends on. A brilliant tile setter who does not communicate creates more problems on a project than an average one who does.

  • Craft you can demonstrate: We will look at your work. Photographs are fine to start, but expect a practical conversation about how you built it.
  • Communication as a job requirement: Clients are told they will get weekly written updates. That promise is kept by the people on site, not by the office.
  • Respect for the house: Floors protected, dust contained, tools put away. Someone lives here, and that is not an inconvenience.
  • Willingness to flag problems early: A problem raised on Tuesday is a change order. The same problem raised on Friday is a delay and an argument.

Roles we hire for

Project managers run a small number of concurrent projects and act as the single client contact from proposal through punch list, which means the role is as much about writing and scheduling as it is about construction knowledge. Lead carpenters run the site day to day, set the standard for the crew and handle the finish work that clients look at closest. Carpenters and apprentices work under a lead and progress on demonstrated skill rather than time served. We also work continuously with licensed electricians, plumbers, HVAC contractors, tile setters and structural engineers as trade partners rather than employees.

What we offer

Steady work in a defined geography, so you are not commuting ninety minutes each way. Competitive pay for the region, paid honestly and on time. Workers compensation and the safety practices that go with a properly run site, which is not universal in this trade. Real training and progression for people who want it, and the tools and materials to do the job correctly rather than being told to make it work. We are a small enough company that good work gets noticed by the people who decide about pay.

How to apply

Email info@benitezcontractors.com with your name, the kind of work you do, roughly how long you have been doing it, and where in Orange County you are based. If you have photographs of your work, attach a few. If you hold a license or certifications, say which. We read everything that comes in and reply to candidates we want to talk to, usually within a week. Trade partners looking to be added to our subcontractor list should include their license number and a current certificate of insurance.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own tools?

Carpenters are expected to have their own hand tools and basic power tools. Larger equipment, consumables and safety equipment are provided. If you are starting out as an apprentice, tell us what you have and we will be realistic about it.

Do you hire apprentices with no experience?

Occasionally, for the right person. What we need to see is genuine interest in the craft and reliability, because we can teach the rest. Be honest about your experience level in your email; overstating it becomes obvious in the first week and starts things badly.

Are you hiring subcontractors and trade partners?

We are always open to hearing from licensed electricians, plumbers, HVAC contractors and tile setters working in Orange County. Include your CSLB license number and a current certificate of insurance in your first email, because we will verify both before any conversation gets serious.

What is the work radius?

Effectively all of our projects are in Orange County, most within thirty minutes of our Orange office. We do not send crews across multiple counties, which means predictable commutes and predictable days.
